Presidential roles: Chief of state(heads the government) Chief executive (gets executive control of US powers)
Must abide by checks and balance
Heads executive branch
Chief diplomat: Main architect of foreign policy.
Commander in Chief- Leads our armed forces.
Chief legislator- Sets congressional agenda.
Chief of party- Unchallenged leader of his party.
Chief citizen. Represents all American people.
Term limits- Made when Franklin Roosevelt served a long term.
qualifications- Natural born U.S citizen, 35 years old, Resident of the US for 14 years.
SECTION 2
Presidential succession/Vice presidency
Originally, the constitution had no succession line. but in 1967 the 25th amendment was written.
If there is an opening for vice president, the president nominates someone to be voted for.
SECTION 3
Framers plan
2 votes would be cast by each elector for who they wanted president, the remainder would pick vice,
in 1800 there was a tie and re-vote, which caused the Presidential and vice Presidential election to be separate.
